World War II is the topic I decided to investigate

The World War II was one of the most important and catastrophic events in history that still affect the world in which we live in. Everything started because of Germany, because Germany invaded Poland with out warning the start of the War. Which became the Second World War.

On September 3rd, Britain and France were at war with Germany, and a week after that Australia, New Zeland, Canada and South Africa were involved in the War. On land, sea and earth, Poles fight wiht Germany, Italy was fitghting with USA, and Japan was fighting with Ausralia, wich was finally settled with nuclear weapons. It seems incredible that after the Total War, the World Was in another war that also became in a catastrophy and derramation of blood.

War, the destruction of war was big, and many soldiers lost their lives deffending their countries, more than 60 soldiers lost their lives and most of Europe and large parts of Asia lay in ruins. Many people was killed, from 1935-1945, 200 neutral soldiers were killed, 5000 axis soldiers wer killed, 2000 allied soldiers were killed, 1000 Partisans were killed, 2800 civilians were killed, 2000 jews were killed and 62000 Soviets were killed.

Destruction was everywere, people was killed, countries were destroying one to another, it seems hard to believe or understand that the WWII was a war to make the peace, but many things from the WWII still affect the world today because many countries that were enemies during the war still are enemies today, sometimes I think that WWIII will come.

Post #3 Label: "I had learned leaders in many nations of the world face complex problems that they feel cannot be solved without international....

Factories helping on air pollution
In this class I had learned many things about other nations, by the presentations of others and by some of my research, I had learned about countries that I did not know that they exist, also for the countries that I already knew, I had learned more about the government, geography, economy, and issues that are going on right now.
From the presentations of others I have seen that drug traffic, air pollution, contamination in water, and crimes. For example in my research on Germany, I learned that Germany, even though it is one of the richest countries in the world, if facing, water contamination issues, but also because is one of the riches countries, a lot of drug traffic is entering the country from many places around the world, specially from the Middle East and South America.
I think that all issues mentioned before need help from all the nations....

  • Drug Traffic

I think that drug traffic is one big issue that needs help from all the nations, not only because drugs are bad, but it is illegal traffic, and is costing lives everywhere, this is a world wide issue and is getting worse every days. this issues need a lot of help, it is hard because too much money is being moved by drugs, and we all know that corruption is everywhere, so it is easier for some nations just not to take to much action because they can lose a lot of money. SO, it think the first steps that needs to be done first is stopping or reducing corruption.

  • Air Pollution

Air Pollution is another big issue, because air is being contaminated every days 24/7. Many countries are in red alert for this issue, and the worst thing that instead of them helping they just do worse, for example, many factories are the cause of this issue as well as motorized vehicles, people is getting too lazy to walk, so they use cars all the time even if they have to go to the corner of their block. I think this issue could be easy to solve if everyone cooperates, using their vehicles less.

  • Contamination in Water

Contamination in Water is also other great issue, but this is even worse, because we need water to survive, and if we have no clean water, the human race will be gone. Water contamination is also an issue that is 24/7 and it gets worse because people is killing to much fishes, and as mentioned in air pollution, factories are also a big cause for this because they throw all their wastes to water. I think that water contamination should be a crime and that people should pay with jail so they can understand.

  • Crimes

Crimes are the biggest issue personally, we just know crimes are everywhere, but what could be interesting to know is why there is criminality in all societies even in the high class. For the most cases crimes occur because people don't have money or because they want to have more than what they already have, I think that this issue can be easily manageable, if everyone cooperates.

Post #2 "I understand how our knowledge of the past is constructed through analysis of primary sources of many kinds."

A primary source a piece of evidence of hisory, that is being used to tell what happened in that time where the piece of evidence was found. When a hitorian tells or writes something about history, first he/she has to find a primary source, and then he/she has to prove that the evidence is true and autentical. There are many primary sources, primary sources can be...propagandas, biographies, artifacts, letters, diaries, official documents, pictures, etc.

Museum

Propaganda created during the New Imperialism

This artwork represents the time when the Imperialism was being in a debacle by anti-Imperialist.

The balance represents the power of the Imperialist and the Anti-imperialist, it seems that the Imperialist aare being destroyed in fire because the Anti-imperialist side is getting bigger. It also seems that the anti-imperialist are being protected by God, I think the hands represent religion.

The website that published this artwork says, "Individuals and nations have differed less about the purpose to be acomplished than about the methods to be employed. Persecutions have been carried on avowedly for the benefit of the persecued, wars been waged for the alleged improvement of those attacked, and still more frequently philantrophy has been adulterated with selfish interest.

Cartoon created on the New Imperialism

This picture is Rasputin proctecting two persons, and it seems that he is protecting them.

Rasputing was a person who was anti-imperialist, and he protected people, he also made miracles and it was hard to kill him, the day he died, he was shot 4 times and a person stab him, and people find him floating on a river, and when the doctors made an autopsy, they said that the cause of his dead was drowning.

The website where I found this picture says that, is a cartoon showing Nicholas II and his wife in Rasputin's control, they said that the artwork represents a protest agains a masacre of something betweeen 200 and 500 Serbian Workers in the gold fields of the Lena River regio

Photography of Nicholas II during the New Imperialism

This is a picture of Nicholas II, he was the last emperor of Russia.

He was one of the persons who was involved on the New Imerialism, and Rasputin was his protector. And he was an anti-imperialist.

"As the Czar he directed the construction of the Trans-Siberian railroads, made peace with France and shared entete with Great Britain. His desaustrous war with Japan, however, led to the Russian Revolution of 1905 and the creation of the Parliament.

Weapons during the New Imperialism

This is a picture of a Maxim gun, this Maxim gun was used in a war wher the US masacre 300 Sioux prisoners, this weapon was used in a war between US and India, after disarming the Indians, the US army used for small arms and four of their newest weapons, the Hotchkiss canon (picture) which fired 1.25 inch exploding shells.

Post #1 Label: "I have become more knowledgeable about the World."

During the second semester I learned much more about the XX century, I learned how every issue that we have, was created for events that happened in the past and still affect the world, I learned more about places on earth that I knew just the name of the country but not really something about them, Also I learned about cultures of the world's societies, and I learned about current issues in the world.

War on Poverty

1. Current Events/Global Issues

About the "Current Events and Global Issues" that are going on right now I learned that many countries even if they have good economy, government, and good land, they have many problems that they are facing right now, the most worldwide common issues, and the most important to take care of are...

  • Poverty

Poverty is an issue that is increasing slowly and in some countries are deep in this issue, for example Africa and some parts in South America.

  • Drug traffic

Drug trafficking is getting crazy around the world and I think is because it moves lots of money to other countries, this one of the biggest issues in Germany, USA, Mexico, and most of South America.

  • Air Pollution

This is everywhere... mainly in big cities, and is getting worse as the time goes.

  • Less water

Some countries don't have enough water, and I think this causes Poverty, because it a country or any land doesn't have water, the country will not be able to produce food for people, or to export it to other countries. (I think this is the root of all Issues in the world)

  • Government

In some places of the world Government is crazy, and the worse thing is that the crazy governments are trying to get other countries involved with them, a big example of crazy Governments are Venezuela and Cuba, and some other countries around the world, but this two are the only ones I know. :D

This are current and global issues that are affecting the world. And national leaders are working together to stop or reduce this issues.

History of the 20th century
2. History of the Twentieth Century

The XX century was an era of wars, "wars for peace," in the XX century many countries wanted to have power, and territories. Also there were many revolutions for the goal to have a better government. The most important, but catastrophic events that happened in the XX century were the World War I and the World War II. But conflicts and injustice start before the XX century, so, what happened in the XX century were like prophecies that had to be fulfill.(One think lead to another thing and so on.)

Like I mentioned before, the XX century was an era of worldwide wars. In the early 1900's (exactly September, 1910) Mexico had a revolution, because they wanted to have a better government, they wanted to have equal rights, and land.

Conflicts got spread around the world...

The most famous conflict or catastrophe was the WWI, it was interesting how the entire world fall into war for the cause of the dead or assassination of one person, the Archduke Francis Ferdinand, because of this, Austria-Hungary and Seribia had a war, in which Germany get involved, involving other countries of Europe, making the Great War.

In March, 1917, Russia sparked a revolution that overthrew the czar and paved the way for more radical changes, few months after that, in November, 1917, Lenin came to power and he hoped to build a communist state based on the ideas of Marx.

Between 1919 and 1939, in Eastern Europe many things happened, first they were like "reborn" after the WWI, they failed in a great depression, they made great scientific discoveries, the worse thing was that Hitler rose to power by appealing to extreme nationalist, they created 3 systems of government, democracy, Communism, and fascism.

Human Diversity

3. Human Diversity

About Human Diversity I learned tha everyone has something in common and that many people don't like to accept, and is that we all are humans and we all are the same, when I said that many people don't like to accept it, I mean that some "ism's" are going on righ now, like, Nationalism, Communism, Rasism, etc... People still feel that feeling of nationalism the feeling that they are the best, or better than others. I learned that Humans are not just divided on their color of skin, but in their culture and the name of their country, now in this time people categorzie themselves however they feel they are. For example, some black people say that are white, and some white people say that they are black. I think that's because they ansestors get mixed, and that's why they feel special, or different from others.

Places on earth

4. Places on earth.

About places on earth I learned that India is not in the Middle East. :) Well, I learned a little more than what I already knew, and also I learned a little about countries that I didn't know that they existed, also I learned more names of countries that are situated in the middle east, for example, Serbia, Jordan, "Qatar",(one of the countries I didn't knew it exist) Yemen, and other countries, well about this countries I learned that they have a long history sinse the time of Jesus Christ, also I learned that Egypt is also in the Middle East and that Egyptians invented most of the things girls use to look "pretty". In the class and presentations I learned about the government and the current issues of countries, and their geography.

World's cultures

5. Cultures of the world's societies.

About the different cultures of the world I learned that there are some interesting cultures, and some cultures that are very extreme on what they do.For example, in Iran's culture, family is very important, any family member is proud of their family, but they take this very serious, In Iran if a girl lose her virginity before she gets married, a family member can kill her becasuse she broke the pride of the family.

Other cultures have many parties and they celebrate getting drunk, like Germany, beer is one of the most important things in Geman Culture.

Religion is also another impotrant part of every culture in the world. I think that culture and religion have to be together all the time, one doesn't exist wihtout the other. But this is also a problem of the Middle East, different religion fight with others like if is a war between religions.

Uganda

Patrick Opiyo Makasi, is a man, that at 12 years old, he was forced to enter to a Army, he was in the Army for 20 years, in the army he was trained to kill, burn, pillage and slaughter. His name Makasi, means "siccers" (in other language), he got this name becasue he sheared off ears and lips from people. Makasi had a hard time in the Army, because he was forced to kill people, and do wrong.

Now, Makasi has a new mission, his new mission is to huntdown his boss. But the Ugandan government is against this, because this conflict had taken thousands of lives on the north of Uganda.

The American government is helping Uganda with millions of dollars of millitary support, namely, trucks, and airplanes.

Reflection:

Patrick Opiyo Makasi had a hard life in his youth, he was humiliated, and forced to kill people, all of this make Makasi feel hate for life, that's why he killed people, but now he has a feeling of anger against he man who forced him to do those acts of violence.

Many teens think that they have a hard life, because their parents want to make them do their chores, they think they have a bad life, because their parent did not let them use the car, I think some teenagers don't know what is to have a hard life. When teenagers know what is to have a hard life, being humilited, work for something and what is to sacrifice things they like to get something else, when teens know all of this they could comprehend Makasi.

World Wide Issues

Drug traffic is a big world wide issue this days, this big issue is killing our society, and is something we need to stop. We need to help each other to finish with this problem. We have to declare war against drug dealers, and the countries who export drugs to other countries, we really need to fight against this issues, or our world will fall into chaos.
Also another big issue that is worldwide is the contamination of water and air pollution, this is even worse than the drug issues, we can live with drugs but no with out air and water, we also need to fix this big problem. Everyone knows that if we work together as a team we can reach our goals.

"Exploring Extremes"

When (and by whom) was the South Pole reached by an

On November 1912, the tent of Captain Robert Scott and his two companions found the body of Captain Scott wedged between those of his fellow explorers, the flaps of his sleeping bag thrown back, his coat open. His companions Henry Bowers and Dr. Edwards Wilson, were the last members of a fiveman team returning to their home base from the Pole.

When (and by whom) was the north pole?

On April 6, 1909. Commander Robert Edwing Perary, a civil engineer in the US Navy, claimed to have completed the journey in just 53 days. But he let alone a man that loosed 8 of his toes due to frostbite on previous expeditions, and for this reasons many believe that the first person to reach the north pole was Yorkshireman

Who led an Expedition to summit Everest in 1924 and what happened to him? when was the summit finally reached for the first (documented) time?

George Mallory was the mountaneer who tried to reach the top of the Everest Mountain in 1924, it was his third attempt and he dissapear, in 1999 Mallory's body was found but clues did not provide conclussive evidence as to whether the summit was reached.

In 1985 Oscar Cadiach was the first person to climb the Mount Everest.

I think people did it to prove that the humans can complete their goals, and that they wanted to test the human capacity for this kind of activities. Many people knows me, and they know that I'm too crazy, I would do something like this to prove people that everyone can do it, but I'm not too crazy to put my life on risk, so what I want to say is, NOOOOOOOOO

More than 100 years later, the World I live in stills and displays the Impact of the New Imperialism

After the Imperialism was invented, it stills in this days. For example, the Taliban where the Imperialist of Afghanistan, and they still are being the Imperialist of Afghanistan, because they conquered Afghanistan's believes, religions, government, economy, army, well, "everything,(until they were kicked out by the US), but the Taliban didn't helped Afghanistan they made it a worse place, because, they have bad government, economy, and "believes."

Also I think that USA is the imperialist of Central and Latin America but in a better, way, I watch the News a lot, and I have heard that US help on the economy and government of many countries of Latin America, for example Honduras, also I had known that US gave money, and better weapons to fight against the drug dealers. In the hospital from the city that I come from, the US send better machines, and also the city has American laws.

Positive Effects of the New Imperialism

But there also were Positive effects due to the New Imperialism, because the Europeans had better economy and technology, than the territories that they conquered, they imported their technology, as well as laws culture, and traditions, to those places.
Sometimes when I don't have something to do, I ask myself, "How would Mexico look like if the Spanish would not conquer south and central America?" and then I think, "Maybe, right now I would be fighting with other people for food, or I would be writing on stones, using hummers made of stones, making crazy calendars that no one would understand but me, or guessing what will happen on the future, or taking other peoples heart to offer it to the "GOD OF THE SUN" or making big sculptures, dancing for rain, and play to run and kill each other for the daughter of the Emperor of the Tribe" I think on all this crazy things and then I think that it was good for South America, Central America, and North America to be conquered by the Europeans, because they passed their technology to the Americas, as well as religion, and made this places on big and industrialized cities.

The same happened with all the other countries that the Europeans conquered, they made big industrialized cities from those places that were in bad economy, that lived like monkeys.

A good effect that was caused by Imperialism was that, even if the countries fought to conquer the territories, they help those territories by giving them medicines, weapons, a good established government, and a better life, because they didn't want more slavery on Africa and they protected them, from being conquered by other people, they also gave a good education to the people, they established schools, in fact they modernized this places.

Another good effect was that they increased the military forces of the territories, like the navy and the army,

Negative Effects of the New Imperialism

Imperialism had many Negative effects, because many European countries wanted to conquer the world they fought between them, and because they had better weapons and technology as well as medicine, they could survive to mortal diseases, and also because of this, Africans and Asians accepted Western control over them.
Europe had a special weapon called "Maxim gun" this was probably one of the best war machines, with this machines they killed people very fast, I think that without the Maxim gun Europe would not conquer parts of Africa. Even an English person said that whatever happens they have the Maxim gun and Africans don't.

Because Europe wanted to control African's life, many people were against this. Africans and Asians resisted their Expansion, and they fought against them even if their weapons were inferior to the European weapons. After a while, western educated Africans and Asians organized movements to take imperialist out of their lands.

Also because the Europeans controlled African's lives, they made them work almost for nothing, and they sometimes killed them, and in some regions the population declined.

Wars for the territory were everywhere, when the French empire wanted to control part of Africa, the Algerians rise in weapons and fought against the French, but this coasted many of lives for both empires. When the British wanted to conquer south Africa, the Boers fought against them, but unfortunately the British won because they had better armies and technology than the Boers.

What was "the New Imperialism"?

The New Imperialism was when the Europeans wanted to conquer most part of the world. European Imperialism was applied in the Americas when the Spanish conquered most of south and central America, and when the Portuguese conquered also a part of South America, and England and France conquered North America, they Imperialised this territories, because they controlled the economy, the culture(including their religions) and government of the land. But the Europeans wanted more, and they also wanted to conquer Africa and Asia.

Because of the Industrial Revolution, Europe increased its technology and economy, they also had a big military strenght, they abused from their power and "expanded their empire."
Manufacturers wanted more natural resources to produce their products, and sold therm in markets, they supported an oversea expansion.

Nationalism played a big role, France moved into West Africa, its rival nations Britain and Germany seized lands to halt further French expansion.
As the Europeans wanted more territory for them, they fought each other for land. Like every other events in history, Imperialism also had Positive and Negative effects.

In fact Imperialism was like and still as an Ideology where people wanted to dominate the world because they had better armies, government, economy than the territories that they wanted to conquer.

Results of Sorting People Quizz

Well, before I started Sorting the persons, I look at each of them, and I look an obvious difference in one of the pictures of the Asian people, I look at their eyes, and i just drag them to the Asian box, and then I choose very fast the black people, and I though how an Hispanic looked like, but I was wrong, well, at the end of the quiz, I ended up with 3 correct American Indian, 2 Asian, 2 black, 1 Hispanic, and 1 white, I though I was correct at first because in the order that I choose the people it looked so correct, but I learned that people can be different in skin color than the other people in the same country, well I think I have a good example, OK, for example "ME" :)
many people (Mexicans and a few white people or black people) when they looked at me they think that I'm white, because my skin color is lighter than other Mexicans, and they start to talk to me in English, but when I told them or ask them, "Are you Blind? just look at my face I'm Mexican you idiot,"(same exact words but in spanish) and they get surprised sometimes is fun, because one time I told the same thing to another Mexican, he answered "Wow, this American speak spanish so perfect" that was the funniest thing I ever heard, but anyway, keep going.
I learned that it doesn't matter the skin color that make us different from other people, or our language, or religion, I think the only thing that makes us different from others is how we identify our selves, I can say that I'm American or a white guy can say that is from England, well it doesn't matter because I know that all white people are immigrants, and I also know that if I look for my ancestors one of them will be from Europe, because also the people who conquered Mexico and Latin America were immigrants. so in that case, we all are immigrants from other place, YAAAY

well that was what I learned,
